Deutsche Bank is once again present at TEFAF in 2011; it has long been sponsoring the fair for art and antiquities, which is considered to be the show of shows worldwide. In 2010, over 70,000 visitors flocked to the Maastricht Exhibition & Congress Centre. With around 260 exhibitors and over 30,000 works, this "temporary museum" again and again lures collectors from all over the world to the tranquil city on the Maas River. From a Rembrandt portrait that goes for 47 million dollars and works of Classic Modernism such as Leger and Picasso to Jeff Koons' Art Car for BMW—the works at the 24th annual fair, which over the past several years has increasingly opened itself to contemporary art, are of the highest quality throughout, as always.
In 2011, Deutsche Bank’s VIP Lounge at the TEFAF stands under the sign of one of the most important protagonists of contemporary art: the "great alchemist" Sigmar Polke. As an homage to the artist, who died in the summer of 2010, a selection of works from the Deutsche Bank Collection is presented under the title Raster (Grid). Over 400 works of Polke’s have been acquired to this day. An entire floor in the bank’s Group Head Office in Frankfurt was dedicated to Polke’s oeuvre. His art is also, however, present in the new, noticeably younger and more international art installment in the Deutsche Bank Towers: as a classic among contemporaries, his drawings have now found their place in the office area of the Board of Directors.
